Other Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Great Barrington's Community Preservation Committee adds drinking-water-source land to its funding priorities and closes its annual plan hearing. All eight members, Martha, Jim, Steve, Phil, Patricia, Kate, Karen and Jeremy, voted unanimously to add language supporting "projects that acquire, create, or preserve land for public drinking water sources," with one member recusing. Members debated whether to strengthen plan language favoring town-sponsored projects over private applicants, with Steve pushing for firmer wording and Patricia warning it "could have a lousy application" beat a strong private one.

One member noted the state's CPA match has ranged from a low of 15 percent to a high of 100 percent, averaging 19 to 23 percent. The committee set its fiscal year 2027 calendar: Step One applications due November 6, Step Two due December 11, with final votes expected January 7.
