Preservation panel extends two project deadlines to 2026, 2027
Other Committee · Meeting of March 31, 2026
Great Barrington's Community Preservation Committee extended deadlines on two stalled preservation projects and began drafting stricter grant terms for future ones. Members unanimously pushed a downtown building's CPA-funded roof and energy retrofit deadline to December 31, 2026, after presenter Craig described lost vendors and National Grid delays, and unanimously extended the Historical Commission's fiscal 2021-22 inventory project to June 30, 2027, citing contractor Neil Larson's health issues. The roughly $43,000 inventory grant included a $40,000 contractor bid and $5,000 set aside for signage.
The committee is also preparing roughly $993,000 in CPA project appropriations, plus mandatory 10 percent reserves worth about $67,500 each for historic, housing and open space accounts, for the May 2 Annual Town Meeting. "If we didn't extend one of these projects, it would send a clear message," member Rich said, arguing for shorter, stricter grant terms going forward.
