Finance panel recommends Robbins for vacant seat
Finance Committee · Meeting of July 14, 2026
Great Barrington Finance Committee recommends Doug Robbins for its vacant seat after a split vote. The panel voted 3-1 to back Robbins, a retired business owner, with Chair Madonna Meagher, Vice Chair Jeffrey Rothenberg and Clerk Reo Matsuzaki in favor and member Michelle Loubert dissenting, after first rejecting software consultant Adrian Alcala 3-1. The recommendation goes to the Select Board for final appointment.
Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove told the committee the town once appropriated "almost $12 million" in capital debt in a single year against a $16 million operating budget, and flagged a regional fire and EMS dispatch study underway through the UMass Boston Collins Center. The committee also tabled, 4-0, its own Community Preservation Committee representative appointment until a fifth member is seated. Public comment turned heated when a Housatonic resident's call for stricter personal property tax enforcement drew a profanity-laced clash with another attendee, prompting members to consider adding structured committee comment time to future agendas.
