Planning Board OKs Fire District pump building
Planning Board · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Great Barrington Planning Board approves Fire District's water interconnection building, holds off on commercial fill station. Vice Chair Pedro Pachano ran the meeting until Chair Brandee Nelson arrived at 7:06 p.m.; members voted unanimously to approve the roughly $2.5 million Christian Hill Road pump building with conditions requiring 3,000 Kelvin, motion-sensor lighting and stating the approval "shall not be construed" as approval of a proposed commercial water-fill station. Resident Michelle Loubert warned that "many, many trips back and forth" by water tankers previously caused traffic problems near a similar operation.
Separately, the board heard that the Barrington Brook subdivision on Thrushwood Lane remains out of compliance with its special permit; trustee Stanley Brown said "things will get done quickly" only if the town holds up permits, and the board voted to seek a town counsel opinion on withholding permits or issuing a stop-work order over an undevelopable covenant lot.
