Planning Board advances open space plan toward June 11 vote
Planning Board · Meeting of May 28, 2026
Great Barrington Planning Board presses for a more readable open space plan ahead of a possible June 11 endorsement vote. Town planning staffer Christopher Rembold told the board the Conservation Commission endorsed the draft Open Space and Recreation Plan the night before, with the public comment period running through June 20. Member Jacqueline Kain said the plan's top-rated goal, protecting farmland, contained no high-priority action items, calling the omission "discordant" against more detailed sections that followed.
Clerk Jonathan Hankin said the document "is set up for the state to read, not for a human." Vice Chair Pedro Rafael Pachano relayed resident complaints that a developer at Main and Mahaiwe streets has yet to hire a required arborist despite cutting tree roots to install a sewer line. The board unanimously approved its May 14 minutes and adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
