Planning Board OKs Division Street Fence 4-1
Planning Board · Meeting of March 26, 2026
Great Barrington Planning Board approves a six-foot fence at 34 Division Street on a 4-1 vote. Chair Brandee Nelson, Pedro Pachano, Jeremy Higa and Malcolm Fick backed the special permit for applicants Brian and Marcy Buccellato, conditioned on native plantings between the fence and the road; Clerk Jonathan Hankin cast the lone dissent, calling it "a privacy fence" rather than a safety measure. Buccellato told the board her "front yard isn't a space we can comfortably or safely use, especially with young children" on the high-speed, sidewalk-free street.
Neighbors Michelle Loubert and Jenediah Shields spoke in support; no one opposed. The board also held a working session on its Open Space and Recreation Plan with BRPC planner Seth Jenkins, drawing on 437 survey respondents, and heard a pitch from Richmond resident Devin Lemke for a disc golf course, with the nearest 18-hole options 30 minutes away.
