School Committee OKs Social Media Policy, 6-1
School Committee · Meeting of July 23, 2026
GREAT BARRINGTON — Berkshire Hills School Committee adopts social media policy, 6-1, as AP exam participation nearly doubles. The committee amended the district's staff social networking policy to bar teachers from sharing personal or home phone numbers "to students" without prior approval, then adopted the policy as amended over one dissenting vote. Superintendent Peter and staff presenter Colin reported early College Board data showing AP exam-takers rose from 73 to 107 students and total exams from 121 to 179, while scores of 3-or-higher held near 93 percent, with low-income and non-low-income students posting nearly identical averages, 3.64 versus 3.71.
New middle school principal Seth told members he has called roughly 70 families and met with 20 of 25 teachers this summer, saying, "I want to make sure I'll be there every day from 8 to 4 for the rest of the summer." The building committee also reported settling on a reddish mortar and brick color for its MSBA-backed construction project.
