Select Board backs Housatonic Cultural District bid
Select Board · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Great Barrington Select Board backs a Housatonic Cultural District application and hears bridge-repair updates. Housatonic Improvement Committee Chair Sarah Parker won unanimous approval to submit a letter of intent to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, citing a 2025 visioning session where "50 residents" called for more gathering space and stronger local business. Town Manager Liz reported MassDOT approved a design waiver for a temporary Brookside Road Bridge, while the Hulbert Road Bridge began an eight-to-ten-week closure the same day.
She said rumors that the South County Connector transit service is being dissolved are false, calling it instead a restructuring into a formal department. The board also accepted $789 in general donations plus $1,231.78 from Rita Valeri for the senior center, approved five license applications including a temporary all-alcohol permit for Stanton Home's Harvest Roast, and tabled its July 6 minutes after a resident disputed their accuracy.
