Board Sets Show-Cause Hearing For Salvage Yard
Select Board · Meeting of July 27, 2026
Great Barrington sets a show-cause hearing over a salvage yard's noise complaints and votes to sell a foreclosed house. The Select Board scheduled a September 28 hearing on All-Star Auto Salvage's licenses after Division Street resident Michelle LeBaire said the Van Dusenville Road business has made her home unbearable, telling the board "we can't enjoy our own home." The board ordered compliance reports from the building commissioner, police chief, board of health, fire chief and state DEP, plus independent sound monitoring. Members also voted 4-1 to sell a tax-foreclosed house at 151 Cottage Street, carrying a $102,000 tax debt against a $268,600 assessed value, rather than convey it to the town's Affordable Housing Trust.
Separately, the board unanimously endorsed a MassWildlife plan, backed by an America the Beautiful Challenge federal grant, to remove a dilapidated dam at Old Maid's Park in Housatonic, and appointed Doug Robbins to the Finance Committee on a 3-1-1 vote.
