Select Board Orders Training After Library Complaint
Select Board · Meeting of July 28, 2026
Great Barrington Select Board orders open-meeting training after a former library trustee's complaint. Ruby, who resigned from the Board of Library Trustees on May 18 after also chairing the Ramsell Building Committee, told the board a May 14 email among three trustees improperly reshuffled a leadership vote, saying she "did not want to be associated with an organization that moves its members like chess pieces." The outgoing trustees chair disputed the characterization but acknowledged the nomination process "went sideways." The board voted unanimously to reconfirm chair-conduct expectations and build a training program for all town boards. In a later strategic-priorities workshop, the board voted unanimously to elevate the Ramsell library project to its top tier, citing new state grant eligibility, and voted to drop a roughly $400,000 fire station utility-easement item from its five-year priorities list.
Town Manager Liz also flagged a $150,000 police station feasibility study for fiscal 2028, citing outgrown, unsecured facilities.
