School board approves donation, lacrosse waiver in unanimous votes

School Committee · Meeting of March 26, 2026

GREAT BARRINGTON — Berkshire Hills school board celebrates AP scores among the best in Massachusetts. The School Committee heard the district ranked 12th among the state's top 15 districts for AP scores of 3 or higher, topping a peer group of similarly sized Massachusetts districts, with one committee member calling it "the kind of best news I've had since I've been on the committee for 12 years." Superintendent Peter announced facilities employee Paul Kakely, with the district since 1974, will retire July 1, and that Seth Levin Lewis will become Du Bois Middle School principal in July. The quarterly financial report showed $8.4 million in receipts against $10.9 million in expenses through December 31, leaving an $8.2 million unencumbered balance.

Members also unanimously accepted a book donation from longtime teacher Roselle Shartok and approved a girls lacrosse eligibility waiver.
