Board of Health approves minutes, outlines inspector contract shift
Board of Health · Meeting of April 16, 2026
Great Barrington Board of Health outlines contracted health inspections after town cuts inspector job. The board voted 3-0 to approve March minutes under Chair Michael Lanoue, with members Dr. Ruby Chang and Peter Stanton.
Starting May 1, the Southern Berkshire Public Health Collaborative will provide up to 24 hours a week of inspection services under a contract running through June 2027, after Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove's request for quotes drew only one response. A board member called the change "a little disappointing," noting the town saved only an estimated $3,000 to $4,000 versus keeping the salaried position and was not consulted beforehand. The board also detailed its April 25 Earth Day cleanup and reported the Housatonic water system's completion has slipped from March toward June.
