Health board appoints Massey as new agent
Board of Health · Meeting of August 6, 2026
Great Barrington Board of Health appoints James Massey as new health agent, effective Aug. 24. Meeting with only two of three members present, Chair Michael Lanoue and member Dr. Ruby Chang voted 2-0 on every item, including proceeding with a state grant for two bear-proof compost containers at the transfer station.
The board tabled a pool-fencing dispute at Lantern House, where a new six-foot cedar fence doesn't meet chain-link code, and a tattoo artist's bid to run a mobile "pop-up" body art studio. The bulk of public comment concerned All Star Salvage on Van Deusenville Road, ahead of a Sept. 28 Select Board show-cause hearing on its special permit. Resident Michelle Lubert said, "There are days when the noise is so bad that we need to leave our home." The department reported more than $7,000 in July revenue and 73 permits issued in the past month.
