Board Suspends Tobacco License Over Sale to Minor
Board of Health · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Great Barrington's Board of Health fines a local store $1,000 and suspends its tobacco license after a sale to a minor. Tri-Town Health Department Tobacco Awareness Program coordinator Kate Fletcher told the board an August 6 compliance check found a pack of Marlboro cigarettes sold to an underage customer at a store identified in the meeting as Linden Mart. Board member Peter Stanton moved to impose the $1,000 fine and a one-day suspension effective September 18, with Chair Michael Lanoue absent and only Stanton and Dr.
Ruby Chang present to vote. Fletcher said the violation "mandates a fine of $1,000" and a suspension of "not less than one day and not more than five days." Separately, the board tabled a permit dispute over pool fencing at the Lantern House Motel, where a $35,000 fence project remains unresolved, and confirmed all local retailers complied with Massachusetts's new statewide kratom ban.
