Great Barrington releases building condition reports
Great Barrington has released engineering evaluation reports on Town Hall, Mason Public Library and Fire Station Headquarters, detailing building conditions and repair recommendations for future capital planning.
The Town of Great Barrington announced Nov. 2 that it has released three engineering evaluation reports examining the condition of Town Hall, Mason Public Library and Fire Station Headquarters.
The reports are part of a Building Envelope Evaluation and Water Infiltration Study funded through an appropriation approved by voters at the 2026 Annual Town Meeting. The study builds on a 2023 municipal facilities condition assessment. The town engaged Gale Associates, Inc. to inspect roofing systems, exterior masonry, windows and doors at the three buildings, using drone photography and targeted water infiltration testing along with additional investigative work.
The reports document existing conditions at each building, identify potential sources of water infiltration and other deficiencies, and provide recommended repair approaches with preliminary cost estimates. The town says the information is meant to inform future maintenance priorities, engineering and design needs, and capital improvement planning.
All three reports, along with project background information and anticipated next steps, are available on the town's Municipal Building Envelope Evaluation webpage.
The town says it will continue reviewing the recommendations and identifying priorities for future work. Any proposed improvements would be subject to further evaluation and applicable public and funding approval processes. The release was issued by Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove.
