The Town of Great Barrington announced Nov. 2 that it is moving short-term rental registration to a new online platform, Rentalscape, built by Deckard Technologies. The system is meant to simplify registration, improve communication with property owners, and support enforcement of the town's short-term rental rules under Chapter 145, Sections 1 through 9 of the town code.

The town ended its contract with its previous registration provider effective Nov. 1, 2026, and expects Rentalscape to launch shortly afterward.

During the final two weeks of November, the town plans to mail welcome letters to property owners identified as having active short-term rental listings, with instructions for completing the annual registration process. Current short-term rental licenses expire Dec. 31, 2026.

Through Rentalscape, owners will be able to complete registration applications, submit required documents, and pay the $200 annual registration fee online. Required documentation includes a Massachusetts Department of Revenue Room Occupancy Excise Registration Certificate, proof of property ownership, and a Certificate of Inspection issued by the Great Barrington Building Department.

The town said Rentalscape will also help identify short-term rental activity that isn't registered. Property owners found advertising or operating without the required registration will be notified of steps needed to come into compliance and will have 90 days from receipt of that notice to register. Failure to do so within that period may result in enforcement action.

Property owners are urged to watch for their welcome letters in November and review the instructions before starting the new registration process. Questions can be directed to the town by email at SBTM@townofgbma.gov or by phone at (413) 528-1619, ext. 2900. The town's short-term rental regulations are available online. The announcement was signed by Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove.
