Division Street Bridge to close Nov. 12 for inspection
Great Barrington announced Oct. 30 that Division Street Bridge over the Housatonic River will close to all traffic Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a scheduled inspection, with a signed detour and police on site.
The Town of Great Barrington announced Oct. 30 that Division Street Bridge, which spans the Housatonic River, will be temporarily closed to all traffic on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The closure is needed to accommodate a scheduled bridge inspection. Steere Engineering will conduct the work using specialized equipment designed to assess the underside of the bridge. Because the bridge has a single-lane configuration, the town said a full closure is necessary to safely complete the inspection.
A signed detour will be in place for the duration of the closure, with traffic control provided by N.E. Bridge Contractors, Inc. Great Barrington police officers will be on site to assist with traffic management and local access.
The town is asking motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signage. Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove signed the notice, which described the inspection as part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe and reliable infrastructure.
