The Town of Great Barrington announced a schedule of Halloween weekend activities on Oct. 28, including festivities on Saturday, Oct. 31, and a community cleanup and Pumpkin Smash in Housatonic on Sunday, Nov. 1.

On Saturday, Ramsdell Library at 1087 Main Street in Housatonic will host family activities from noon to 3 p.m., including crafts, music and seasonal movies, with "Halloweentown" showing at noon and "Hocus Pocus" at 1:30 p.m.

The Housatonic Halloween Parade will begin at Ramsdell Library at 4 p.m. and travel along Main Street to Housatonic Commons. Berkshire Pulse will present a Halloween-themed Thriller dance performance after the parade, along with costume contests for people and dogs with prizes.

Trick-or-treating in both Great Barrington and Housatonic will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The town is asking residents who want to welcome trick-or-treaters to turn on their porch lights.

The town is also asking motorists to use extra caution, reduce speeds and stay alert for pedestrians during evening trick-or-treating hours, and is encouraging parents and caregivers to accompany younger children, make sure costumes are visible after dark, and remind children to cross streets safely.

On Sunday, a Housatonic-wide community cleanup will take place from noon to 3 p.m., starting at Housatonic Commons Park. Residents, families and volunteers are invited to help clean up the village after the Halloween festivities, for the full afternoon or just part of it.

As part of Sunday's activities, Berkshire Compost will hold a Pumpkin Smash at Housatonic Commons Park, giving residents a way to dispose of their Halloween pumpkins while keeping organic material out of the waste stream.

The town thanked the Housatonic Improvement Committee, Great Barrington Libraries, Berkshire Pulse, Berkshire Compost, and other participating organizations and volunteers for supporting the weekend's events.
