The Town of Great Barrington announced Oct. 21 a reminder that the regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be held this Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lee Water Treatment Plant, 379 Pleasant Street in Lee.

The event allows residents to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials, including pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, oil-based paints, stains, paint thinners, household cleaners, solvents, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, other automotive fluids, fluorescent bulbs and rechargeable batteries. Latex paint, electronics, propane cylinders, medications and medical sharps will not be accepted.

Residents must register in advance to take part. Registration information and a complete list of accepted materials are available on the Tri-Town Health Department's website or by calling 413-243-5540. Residents can also complete online registration through SignUpGenius.

The town advised residents to keep hazardous materials in their original containers, secure all lids, transport containers upright in sturdy boxes, and never mix chemicals.

The announcement was signed by Town Manager Liz Hartsgrove.
